The aim of the Faculty of Visual Plastic Arts is to prepare students for work in three dimensions, encouraging individual creative work that’s based on practical skills in various art disciplines and on comprehensive knowledge of cultural heritage. The Faculty of Visual Plastic Arts offers studies in three degree-awarding departments:
- Department of Sculpture
- Department of Ceramics
- Department of Glass Art

At the centre of the study programme is composition, which to the students of each Department is taught taking into account their specific field. Together with a tutor, usually a professional artist, students are working on different assignments with increasing difficulty and complexity. To guarantee the success of student projects, the Art Academy of Latvia involves in its work many local and international specialists, who are not faculty members, but can provide valuable input to the study process.

In both undergraduate and graduate studies much emphasis is put on students’ individual work demanding high professional skills and creative thinking.

The Head of the Faculty of Visual Plastic Arts is Professor Vineta Groza.
