The Art Academy of Latvia will host the director of art support group ARTizan -Teiko Hinuma (0 komentāri)
On May 16, the Art Academy of Latvia will host the director of art support group ARTizan -Teiko Hinuma with the lecture “Japan’s artist residences as a social challenge”. The lecture will start at 14:00 in room 10.

AIR programs have developed in the fields of fine art, literature, music, and performing arts. Concepts of “global” and “local” are becoming less and less opposed. In Japan there are a lot of AIR programs which are organized by public and private funds. Each year more and more international artists are involved with AIR Japan. Presentation by Teiko Hinuma will introduce the cases of International AIR Programs in Japan as a social challenge.

Teiko Hinuma is director of citizen art support organization “ARTizan”, program director of Rikuzentakata Artist-in-Residence Program, curator at Aomori Contemporary Arts Center (1999-2011) and Associate Professor at Joshibi University of Art and Design.

Riga Archigrams is a conceptually distinct set of postcards, which demonstates the interconnection between the architecture and urban environment of Riga. Here, the old and the new converge. The historical interacts with the contemporary. Here, elite urban villas go hand in hand with shanty slums. For this once, camera lens has managed to capture architectural icons in the broader urban context similarly to what the residents and guests of the city perceive. This is Riga as we know it. These are the Riga Archigrams.

In exhibition will be presented graphics projects of students (BA and MA) and lecturers (professors, docents, lecturers) from Graphic Department Vilnius Academy of Arts. The main idea is to show some different situations of graphic project from the Graphic department “cluster”: however, constantly growing links between different arts, have been pushing self-image of graphics (and other areas as well) beyond its traditional expression boundaries. Thus, the boundaries defining the purity of graphics are ever changing.

Winners of the “Art Academy Award 2014” were announced during the award ceremony on 19 February 2014. The prize, which was founded with an aim to identify and appraise the most outstanding accomplishments in visual art, design and art history in Latvia, this year was awarded to three distinguished alumni of the Art Academy of Latvia: artist, art historian and Director of the Rundāle Palace Museum Imants Lancmanis, illustrator Anita Paegle and artist Kaspars Podnieks. Exhibition “Art Academy Award 2014” introduces the audience to the works of the nominees and award winners.

In May 2013 faculty members of the Art Academy of Latvia began work in the creative laboratory “Our Artists”, in which they set out to analyze the visual art heritage of the Latvian Cultural Canon. Finding inspiration in the work of Latvian great masters, current professors together with students created contemporary interpretations of the classic masterpieces. Artworks envisioned during the creative laboratory and completed in the autumn months of 2013 are currently on view at the Great Hall of the Art Academy of Latvia.
