Brederlo von Sengbush Art Award
From 15th to 30th of January at the Hall of the Art academy of Latvia a student exhibition "Brederlo von Sengbush Art Award" will be opened.
The Hall works from Tuesday to Saturday from 11 am. till 5 pm. 
 
Fridrich Wilhelm Brederlo was born in Jelgava on 7th of December 1779 and died in Riga on 2nd of March in 1862. He was considered an excellent art expert and collector; his collection consists of 201 painting and the largest part of it is held into the Foreign Art Museum of Latvia in the Riga Castle.

On 31st of October in 1906 grand grandson of the collector Oscar Wilhelm von Sengbusch dedicated the European scale collection to then just opened Riga City museum, today - Latvian National Art museum. One hundred years after on 2006 the heirs of the collection in honour of Fridrich Wilhelm Brederlo wanted to re-establish the tradition founded by the collector - to support young Latvian artists. Due to the wish von Sengbusch family has established - von Sengbush Art Award for the students of the Art Academy of Latvia.

The aim of von Sengbush Art Award is support of the most talented students of the At Academy of Latvia. Students of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic departments can apply for the award by submitting their creative works for the judgment of jury. This year 83 students applied by submitting 132 works to the jury - the rector of the Art Academy of Latvia Aleksejs Naumovs, the pro-rector Kristaps Zariņš, the Head of Doctorate programme of the AAL Ojārs Spārītis, the Head of Restoration Department of the AAL Andris Začests, the Head of Foreign Art Museum Daiga Upeniece and Werner von Sengbusch - member of the Sengbush family.

The Award is adjudging in cooperation with the Art Academy of Latvia.

The Awards was announced on Thursday, 14th of January at 5 p.m. at the hall of the Art Academy of Latvia within the framework of opening of the exhibition. His Excellency, the Ambassador of Germany in Latvia Detlef Veigel opened the exhibition.
And the Award goes to Zane Balode (Painting), Sandis Aispurs (Sculpture), Edgars Ošs (Sculpture) and Sabīne Vekmane (Graphic art).
