Welcome to my bath!
(Stand Nr. V01:12)

The Faculty of Design of the Art Academy of Latvia (LMA) with the support of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) is taking part in the Greenhouse new designers section of the Stockholm Furniture Fair (09.02.-13.02.) for the fifth time, thus, becoming a recognizable player among the Nordic and Baltic design schools. This year′s exhibition is a cooperation project between LMA and Vannu Fabrika PAA bathtub Design Company. Sinks of unique design will be exhibited in Stockholm. The aim of the Faculty′s participation in the fair this year is to establish direct contacts with Nordic companies, gain further experience in industrial design, look for opportunities to train in companies and find new cooperation prospects.
LMA exhibition "Welcome to my bath" is displayed in the Greenhouse new designers exhibition hall, stand V01:12.

Cooperation between LMA and Vannu Fabrika PAA is a course project of the third year students of LMA Faculty of Design, Environmental Design Department. The cooperation project took eight months or two semesters, during which students designed four new concept products - bathtubs under the lead of lecturers Barbara Abele, Juris Krumins and PAA director Peteris Treics.

The study course provided students a complete idea about the process of developing a new project starting from research and ending with material implementation of the project. Students in the study process not only learned the design and technological solutions, but also researched wishes and needs of consumers, marketing and advertising aspects, obtaining insight into industrial, promotional and commercial aspects.

Such cooperation is the essence of design. It is a new type of dialogue and language both for students and producers, thus, dispersing the myth about the "good designer" and "bad producer" and vice versa - "the good producer" and "bad designer". Students gain insight into complicity of the process and competence of the involved parties - consumers, technologists, craftsmen, marketing and advertising experts, heads of companies, etc.

Participation of LMA Faculty of Design in the Stockholm Furniture Fair and its recognition in Sweden has been supported by Guntis Rubins and Ausma Kreslina from Stockholm′s representation of LIAA for five years. Thanks to their professional and personal support and participation we have been noticed in the resigned Nordic design environment. Thanks to these two people each participation in the fair is a deepened study course into Swedish culture and design processes for Latvian students and lecturers.

The following lecturers of LMA Faculty of Design take part in the exhibition: Gita Straustina, Juris Krumins, Ervins Pastors, Barbara Abele, Holgers Elers, Inguna Elere, Aija Freimane as well as students Svetlana Saguna, Viktorija Ivanova, Janis Valdmanis, Kaspars Jursons, Marta Batbajarina and Intars Ozols.
