Jazz, blues & some sexy shoes… The Art Academy of Latvia is pleased to invite you to the 75th carnival, which will take place on 22 February 2013 at 8pm! It’s a legendary event that every year attracts several thousand visitors and features lots and lots of exciting performances. This year the theme is roaring twenties – young rebels, surrealists, wild spirits, joyous revellers, silent movie stars, cabaret dancers and wild-eyed American boys. Mark the date and join in!

Exhibition "Kaunas - Riga": Young Art From Lithuania (0 comments)

The Art Academy of Latvia is pleased to begin the new year with an exhibition from Lithuania. "Kaunas - Riga" is a group show, which features artworks by the students of the Kaunas Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts. If sometimes it feels that we learn a lot about far-away lands and actually know very little about or closest neighbours, then this is the opportunity to fill the gap and discover what the young Lithuanian artists have been doing over the past few years and what is their chosen path in art and design.

Exhibition "Brederlo – von Sengbusch Art Award 2012" (0 comments)
12 October 2012 – 1 November 2012, Hall of the Art Academy of Latvia
As announced during the opening event of exhibition “Brederlo – von Sengbusch Art Award 2012” on 11 October 2012, the award this year goes to four students of the Art Academy of Latvia – Klāvs Loris (Department of Painting), Kristīne Rozenberga (Department of Graphic Art), Andris Maračkovskis and Elīna Vojevoda (both from the Department of Sculpture). Works by the award winners and their fellow students, who contended for the prize, are all on show in the “Brederlo – von Sengbusch Art Award 2012” exhibition at the Hall of the Art Academy of Latvia until 1 November 2012. The objective of the award is to recognize and support the most talented young artists studying at the Art Academy of Latvia.

Tomi Ungerer Exhibition at the Art Academy of Latvia (0 comments)
The Art Academy of Latvia is pleased to announce that from 8 until 29 March 2012 it hosts an exhibition of the renowned and award-winning French artist Tomi Ungerer. The exhibit will feature sixty artworks introducing the audience to the artist’s multifaceted works revealing his great talent as a graphic artist, the endless creativity and technical mastery. The items on display have travelled to Riga from the Tomi Ungerer Museum – International Centre for Illustration (Musée Tomi Ungerer-Centre international de l’Illustration) in Strasbourg.

Logotype Competition Successfully Concluded (0 comments)
The Embassy of Israel in cooperation with the Art Academy of Latvia and with kind support of the company “airBaltic” earlier this year announced a competition among the students of the Academy on creation of logos dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Israel – Latvia and Israel – Lithuania. Upon the decision of the Jury Aija Baumane, 2nd year Master degree student of the Department of Visual Communication, was announced as the winner.

Nida Art Colony Accepts Residency Applications and Proposals for Inter-Format Symposium (0 comments)
Nida Art Colony invites artists, designers, architects, curators, and art researchers to meet the coming summer and autumn on the Baltic Sea coast in the Curonian Spit National Park. The Colony was opened in March 2011 as a new branch of the Vilnius Academy of Arts (Lithuania). Deadline for residency applications is 15 February 2012 and for inter-format symposium - 31 March 2012.

Tallinn 6th Applied Art Triennial. Open Call for Artists (0 comments)
Tallinn 6th Applied Art Triennial, which will take place in 2012, announces open call for artists. This year the theme and concept of the triennial is “The Art of Collecting”, curated by Swedish art critic and curator Love Jönsson.

Exhibition
The triennial is international with no geographical restrictions. It is open to both professionals and university students. The artist must hold the copyright to his or her own work, and the work may not have been created under an academic supervisor. The exhibition will take place from 23 November 2012 through 3 February 2012 at the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design, Tallinn, Estonia.

Annual Charity Fair "Jarmarka" 2011 (0 comments)
The annual exhibition-fair-charity event "Jarmarka", which in December 2011 took place at the Art Academy of Latvia already for the ninth time, has been successfully concluded. It is a large-scale event that every December assembles together several hundred students of the Art Academy of Latvia who are exhibiting and offering for sale their study works. The historic venue is bustling with energy, the scent of oil paint pleasantly lingers in the air and the Great Hall of the Academy is filled with thousands of artworks. Both local and foreign visitors are invited to come by to discover new talents, purchase their works or simply browse through and get acquainted with the styles and approaches of the young artists. This year the event featured more than 14'500 study works by 302 Academy's students. Almost 5600 of the works were sold and have found new home either in Latvia or abroad. We're looking forward to December 2012 when "Jarmarka" will be celebrating its 10th anniversary!

“SEB Contest in Painting 2011” Won by Elza Sīle (0 comments)
The annual "SEB Contest in Painting - TALENT PAYS OFF" which is organized by SEB Bank and the Art Academy of Latvia this year was won by Ms Elza Sīle, student at the Department of Painting. The winner was announced on 7 December 2011 during the closing ceremony of the exhibition which featured works of all the contestants and was on show at the Art Academy of Latvia from 15 November until 7 December 2011. Ms Elza Sīle, who was awarded the prize for her work "S_p34", receives a stipend of 1200.00 LVL and a chance to participate in an art workshop in one of the member states of the European Union.
