Students must have a valid passport during their stay in Latvia. Passports term of validity should be at least 6 months longer than your planned duration of stay in Latvia.
EU and EEA citizens
Citizens of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland can enter Latvia without a visa and a residence permit and stay in Latvia for up to 90 days per year. If the duration of the stay is longer, they must apply for a residence permit in the Department of Citizenship and Migration in Latvia. The necessary formalities to get a residence permit will be arranged through the Academy. Documents needed to receive a residence permit to study in Latvia: • A passport • An official application form for a residence permit • A photo • A copy of a study agreement • A copy of a valid health insurance policy.
Citizens from outside the Europe
Citizens from outside the Europe can stay in Latvia up to 90 days without a visa and a residence permit. But if they are planning to stay for more than 90 days, the application for a residence permit should be done in a Latvian Embassy abroad. The procedure can take up to 2 months time!
