The Art Academy of Latvia rector Aleksejs Naumovs receives the Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) in art and literature
On October 11, 2016 the French ambassador to Latvia Stefan Visconti presented the rector of The Art Academy of Latvia prof. Aleksejs Naumovs with the Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) in art and literature. Mr. Naumovs received the Chevalier (Knight) grade order for his contributions in improving French Latvian cultural relations. Previous recipients of the order include arts and culture heavyweights Tim Burton, Philip Glass, Cate Blanchett, Jude Law, Kylie Minogue and others. 
The Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters) is an Order of France, established on May 2, 1957 by the Minister of Culture. The order is awarded to individuals who have significantly contributed to the fields of arts and literature and the enrichment of the French cultural inheritance. Alongside his many contributions to strengthening the bilateral cultural relations, his works were also exhibited at “The Charm of Provence” exhibition at the Riga Bourse art museum in 2015 alongside late 19th century - early 20th century French artists. Several of Mr. Naumovs works were created in France during the “Live Paintings. World Cities” project. Under Mr. Naumovs stewardship, the Art Academy of Latvia was an active participant of the „Etonannte Lettonie" Latvian Cultural festival in France and the “French Spring” festival in Latvia. In January of 2016 The Art Academy of Latvia hosted an exhibition of four young French artists, while an exhibition of emerging Latvian artists titled “Future Gravitation” will be held in Paris this December. The Art Academy of Latvia is also a partner of eight French art institutions within the Erasmus+ programme framework.

A graduate of The Art Academy of Latvia’s Department of Painting, Aleksejs Naumovs is a renowned Latvian artist with paintings of distinctly embellished colour palette. During his continuous tenure at The Art Academy of Latvia, Mr. Naumovs has been a regular participant of significant local and international events - exhibitions, symposiums and exchange programmes. Being one of the most prominent Latvian contemporary artists, Mr. Naumovs has hosted more than 60 personal exhibitions at home and abroad, whilst also participating in tens of group exhibitions. Nominated for the prestigious Purvītis Prize in 2013, which acknowledges the best achievements in Latvian professional visual arts, over the years Aleksejs Naumovs has received several Latvian and international awards, including The Cross of Recognition awarded for outstanding achievements on behalf of the state.
