"BLOSSOMS AND BLOOD" EXHIBITION BY POLISH ARTIST PAWEL NOVAK

From March 9 to April 6 the great hall of the Art Academy of Latvia (LMA) will be hosting "Blossoms and Blood" – an exhibition by Paweł Nowak, professor at Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. It will include work from the series “Sensation Morphology” and “Blossoms”– converging together they delve into questions of life and death. Everyone is welcome to the opening on March 8 at 17.00.

Work from the “Sensation Morphology” series will fill the hall with human hearts cast in glass. Attached to thin metal rods at actual heart height, these glass hearts will be placed just one step, one heartbeat from each other, representing the private space of a person and their emotional state that can change within a heartbeat, as the boundaries of personal space are disturbed. The artist uses fragile materials and a body of powerful symbols to talk about vulnerability in the face of external factors. Meanwhile, work from the series "Blossoms" is suffused by love, faith and hope, embodying the notion of eternity. This series consists of mosaics made of petals, including ones from funeral and wedding flowers from people close to the artist – this is personal and emotionally charged work. A reminder of the cycle of life, of joy and sadness alternating, this series highlights the fact that these emotions are interconnected and cannot be separated.
