AAL INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL / LATVIAN FOLK ART – APPLY NOW!

The Ceramics Department of the Art Academy of Latvia in cooperation with State Education Development Agency offer our colleagues and students from other universities to get to know LATVIAN FOLK ART and apply for the International Summer School, which will take place between 27.06 - 06.07.2024. The application period is from 1 February to 1 April, 2024.

The summer school format will allow you to get to know Latvia's culture, important examples of Latvian art in the context of European art by participating in this program which includes lectures in the museums of Riga and also in Latvian regions, such as Sigulda, Turaida, Rundale, Bauska and Jelgava. Folk art reflects the people's way of life, culture, perception of the world and aesthetic ideals of a certain time, it is constructively decorative, its objects can be used in daily life and have an aesthetic value. We offer also a practical ceramics workshop, where each participant can create some traditional pottery samples in clay and try different "old" ways of firing. The combined, complex approach to this process, mixing theoretical lessons with practice, usually renders excellent results. The process of the creation of a work of art and the sensitive contact with art on a non-verbal level gives added value to the cognitive process.
